The storyline of the new art experience centers on a mythical energy, called The Source. Video content - the length of three feature films - is embedded throughout. Spectators are led through a transformative narrative guided by interactive visual, sound, film and digital content all layered into multi-dimensional art. “When we come into a city, we feel like we have to really work hard to connect with that local community of artists.” But then the other half is local Las Vegas artists and artists from all over the world, all curated into this exhibition,” says Brinkerhoff. “We have a core team that we work with on every project. Via various “portals” within this maximalist and psychedelic grocery store - such as a refrigerated beverage case and a camping display - spectators enter what the creators call a parallel dimension with four vast spaces and 60 additional unique environments. And that’s where all these different artists from around the world are featured.” “Omega Mart, is the name of the room that kicks off the exhibit and it’s also the name of the whole exhibition, but there is more stuff outside of this room,” Brinkerhoff says. The 52,000-square-foot space - more than double the size of the Santa Fe location - took three and a half years to create. Omega Mart, which bills itself as “America’s Most Exceptional Grocery Store,” is stocked with hundreds of custom-made surrealist products - all for sale - such as “Lil Meow” Gruel for Cats in Pigeon Mousse flavor, Mammoth Chunks, Organic Moth Milk and Camel’s Dream of Mushroom Soup. “Creating our work collaboratively gave us leverage to make these things that were way bigger and more exciting than anything we could do by ourselves,” says Brinkerhoff. The challenge of transforming two-dimensional pictorial art into the living skin of this space was both artistic and technological.
The audiovisual content was created by well-known psychedelic artists to produce a journey of consciousness all while in synchrony with a score created by Brian Eno. Our team created a show control system that can play the content through 16 laser projectors and also calibrates the animations to achieve a seamless projection in such a way that the areas where the projectors blend are not perceptible. Cocolab collaborated with the animation of the content, as well as with the technological developments to project on this irregular surface. The undulating canyon walls are 11 meters tall inside a 400 square meters area. Cocolab took part of this extravagant installation with Projected Desert, a desert artificial canyon where psychedelic journeys become a reality. Visitors explore a supermarket where they find portals to surreal worlds and unexpected landscapes. Omega Mart is the new immersive art experience by Meow Wolf in Las Vegas, Nevada.
